The straw that broke the camels back...

Well this just sucks! My back has been hurting for a few weeks now and I finally pushed it too far. I was teaching my normal Tuesday morning class and about half way through I fell to my knees and stayed there. I had to waddle over to my PT and layed on his table for a while getting iced and stem. I am in searing pain and feel awful! I went to bed last night hoping I would wake up a little better and just keep going. Not so much. I woke up in severe pain still. I called the Denver clinic for Steadman Hawkins and they got me right in this morning to see the doc. After taking some xrays here's the jist; the joint space between L5 and S1 is gone, indicating the severity of my herniation that I have had for 6 years. It is now rearing its head because my back is under too much stress from the hip AND disc herniation combined. I'm basically a walking f****** mess, please excuse my expression! If I weren't an athletic individual he would suggest fusing it. He continued to suggest waiting to have hip surgery may not be the best decision for me. I have an appointment with another hip surgeon at the Denver Steadman Hawkins clinic on Tuesday at 10:30am to further discuss this. I am having a repeat MRI on my back first thing Monday morning so that I can go to Rose Pain Managemnt Center for another injection. I am SO SICK OF BEING IN PAIN I CUOLD FREAKIN LOSE IT! This is not the person I am and I am over it!

"We rejoice in our suffering, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope."
Romans 5:3-4

Oh my. Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. You already know that fixing the hip right the first time is so critical so I hope you do select the best surgeon to do the job for you. Good luck. I finally figured out this blog sign in thing so I am not anonymous anymore.

Noell -- :-( I am so sorry to hear about your back. You are right - that sucks!!! It's already July 2 and Sept 2 just isn't that far off . . . 8 weeks. I will say it one more time - get Dr. P to do your hip so you can rule it out completely once it's fixed. You won't have to wonder if someone else didn't do a complete job and it's still a hip issue. Can you take it easy for 8 weeks until you have surgery???? :-)

I am sorry that you are having to go through this. I hope for the best possible outcome and that you will soon know the course you will be taking.

Hang in there
